Weclome to the Office of Development! Our ultimate objective is to guide the Faithful in their desire to help others through charitable giving and development initiatives. In so doing, the Faithful excerise the call as Jesus' disciples by sharing the time, talent and financial resources placed in their midst. Among our main initiatives are the Annual Catholic Appeal, Second Century Scholarship Fund and the Diocesan Priests' Medical /Retirement Collection.
This office also assists Catholic Charities of Altoona-Johnstown in carrying out the annual special collection on the Solemnity of Christ the King in November. Please click on the link to access Catholic Charities Collection information.
We manage development and alumni relations activities for Catholic Campus Ministry serving Penn State's University Park campus. Excitement continues as we near the completion of construction and dedication of the new Suzanne Pohland Paterno Catholic Student Faith Center adjacent to campus.
We also provide assistance to parishes and schools that are interested in forming development strategies and capital campaigns upon request.
Charitable gifts of stock are also welcome to support the Annual Catholic Appeal, specific Diocesan ministries, parishes and schools. To learn about our stock transfer process please click on Stock Gift Procedures.
There are many ways in which you can remember the Church in your estate plan. The most basic of these is a bequest in your Will. (To include the appropriate wording in an existing Will, you would want to attach an addendum known as a Codicil.) One possible statement to include in your Will might read:
I give, devise and bequeath to[the specific Diocese, Parish, School or Ministry name], located in [location] a dollar amount equal to [xx] percent of my adjusted gross estate for federal estate tax purposes.
Gifts may also include cash, stocks, mutual funds, bonds, insurance proceeds, property (homes, farms, investment real estate) and other forms of appreciated assets. There may even be advantages for distributing such possessions during one’s lifetime that a professional advisor could bring to light.
Donors interested in supporting the Church through permanent endowments may do so through the Independent Catholic Foundation.
