Bishop Mark L. Bartchak celebrated a Mass for Pope Benedict XVI on February 28, 2013, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona. The Mass celebrated the service of the Holy Father and offered prayers for him and the College of Cardinals, which will elect the next Pope. Bishop-Emeritus Joseph V. Adamec and priests of the Diocese concelebrated the Mass. Groups including the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas participated. Students from Catholic schools in the Diocese were in attendance. The students offered musical selections and special prayers for the Pope.
